We’re thrilled to launch the first in a series of Artists’ interviews, where we sit down and have a chat with local artists about their process, inspiration and artistic journey.

This summer we put on our creative hats and with the help of a very talented videographer, we began our very own creative journey. This edition brings you the immensely talented Rachel Azzopardi Carbonese. Check out her interview & bio below:

Rachel Azzopardi Carbonese is a Maltese portrait artist and educator known for her expressive, realistic oil paintings and her bold, observation-based approach to portrait painting. Straddling the line between classical training and self-teaching, she first studied art as a child and teenager before taking a long break from painting. When she returned in 2020, she rebuilt her skills from the ground up, drawing on both formal training and instinct.

Since then, Rachel has completed numerous portrait commissions while teaching and inspiring hundreds of thousands of artists worldwide through her online courses and social media. She is now focused on developing her own body of work, creating original figurative compositions that explore colour, light, and the human experience.
